Condition of government schools in Delhi's Old Seemapuri area now better than private schools: Atishi
Delhi Education Minister Atishi on Tuesday inaugurated two academic blocks of Vishwamitra Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, a government school in north-east Delhi's Old Seemapuri area. The school has six laboratories, two libraries and a lift. "The Delhi government is the first to install lifts in government schools to enable students to reach any floor easily. The new academic blocks are of four floors having advanced classrooms, libraries and laboratories with all equipment," Atishi said at the event. As Seemapuri is a densely populated area, government schools have high enrolment. "Earlier, each class had 60 students. But now, with the construction of a new building block, each class will have only 40 students.
Emphasising that the condition of Delhi's government schools has improved under the AAP government, the minister said that "10 years ago, these schools used to stink, desks and benches were broken". Atishi claimed, "After 2015, under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, government schools in Delhi have now surpassed private schools." She said, "Earlier teachers were sent for various surveys like polio and census, which affected studies. But now it is not so." Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal was also present at the event.
