Appointment of Corps Commander for elections being held in the Union Territory after a gap of 10 years.

The Indian Army has appointed a new Corps Commander for the Srinagar-based 15 Corps, who will take over his new charge on October 15. Elections are being held in the Union Territory after a gap of 10 years and voting will take place from September 18 to October 1, the results of which will be declared on October 4. Army officials have appointed Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava as the next Corps Commander of the Chinar Corps and he will take over his new charge from October 15. The officer has done extensive deployment in the Kashmir Valley and before moving to Army Headquarters, he was commanding the National Rifles Force in the Valley. Incumbent Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai will continue to be the Corps Commander in charge of the security of the Kashmir Valley and the Line of Control there on behalf of the Indian Army. Ghai has been approved to take over as the new Director General of Military Operations, replacing Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma.

Lt Gen Ghai is an expert in counter-terrorism operations and has worked closely with Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi during his days as Northern Army Commander. Two important Principal Staff Officers at Army Headquarters including Deputy Chief Strategy and Deputy Chief (Capability Development and Sustainment) are retiring on October 31. In the list of new postings released on July 22, several officers have already been sent to take over in corps like 3 Corps in Dimapur and new Army War College Commandant.
