Heavy vehicle movement suspended due to heavy rains: Assam

Assam Police has temporarily suspended the movement of heavy vehicles on NH-27 between Jatinga and Harangajao in Dima Hasao district of Assam.Vehicles to and from Barak Valley have been directed to use the alternate route via National Highway-6 in Meghalaya till further orders.In its press release, the police ordered a ban on the movement of heavy vehicles with 12 wheels or more and trucks/trailers longer than 24 feet due to incessant rains, land subsidence and ongoing construction works.In its press release, Assam Police said, "Due to incessant rains, land/road surface subsidence and ongoing construction works, the movement of long trucks/trailers including heavy commercial vehicles (more than 24 feet in length) with 12 wheels or more is temporarily banned between Jatinga to Harangajao of National Highway-27 within Dima Hasao district. In this regard, the police have suggested heavy vehicles i.e. 12 wheelers or above and long trucks/trailers plying to and from Barak Valley to take alternate routes through Meghalaya (National Highway-6) till further orders.

Meanwhile, earlier last month, the Executive Engineer of PWRD, Borkhola and Katigora Territorial Road Division had announced a fresh ban on heavy vehicles on the Borkhola-Kalen Road, which is currently under construction as part of the Asom Mala Project.The ban, currently in effect, applies to all vehicles with a gross total weight (GTW) of more than 15 metric tonnes (MT) on the Borkhola-Khambarbazar section of the road.The measure has been taken in response to the regular damage caused to the ongoing construction due to the frequent movement of heavily loaded commercial vehicles, causing severe disruption to pedestrian traffic and smaller vehicles.To mitigate these issues and give priority to public interest, the ban will remain in force till further notice. However, LPG carriers are exempted provided they enter and exit only from the Borkhola side.
