Chirag Paswan hopes for alliance with NDA in Jharkhand polls, option to contest independently also open
Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan on Monday said that he hopes his party will contest Jharkhand polls with the NDA alliance and everything will become clear in 3-4 days. Chirag Paswan also mentioned that he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed the situation in states where elections are being held. "Yesterday, I met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. We discussed the current situation in states where elections are being held and states where elections are yet to be held. We also discussed about Jharkhand... My party (LJP(RV)) is supporting BJP in Haryana and J&K. In Jharkhand also, my thinking is that we should contest elections together with NDA. Everything will become clear in the coming days," Chirag told ANI. Chirag also hinted that his party might contest the elections independently if discussions within the alliance do not yield a favourable result.
Talks are on about whether we will contest the elections in Jharkhand in alliance or independently. If discussions with the alliance yield positive results, it is fine. LJP is capable of contesting from anywhere," he said. "We will make an announcement about this soon. Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is a strong organisation, which will benefit us in the upcoming elections," Chirag said. The term of the Jharkhand state assembly is set to end on January 5, 2025, with elections scheduled for 81 constituencies (44 general, 9 SC, 28 ST) across the state. Jharkhand is scheduled to hold elections for the 81-member assembly later this year, though the Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to announce the dates. On September 24, an ECI delegation led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar conducted an in-depth review of election preparedness for the forthcoming Assembly elections in Jharkhand in Ranchi, directing central and state enforcement agencies to curb the influence of money power. During the Commission’s two-day review visit on September 23-24, representatives of national and state-level political parties, including Aam Aadmi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress, National People’s Party, AJSU Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Rashtriya Janata Dal met the Commission.
