Two medical students drowned in a swollen river in this district on Monday and search for another student is on. Alluri Sitarama Raju district Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar said five medical students were swept away in Jalatharangini waterfalls at Maredumilli around 4 pm on Sunday, of which two were immediately rescued by police and forest officials, but three others could not be saved.

Bardar told PTI, "We found the bodies of two medical students at 7 am on Monday. We are yet to trace the third student and NDRF teams are looking for him. According to the SP, the students were swept away in the river due to heavy rains for a short time in the upper reaches of Maredumilli, a beautiful spot in the Eastern Ghats. Incidentally, a large group of students of ASRAM College of Eluru had gone to Maredumilli for fun. Police have registered a case of drowning in this incident.
