Kejriwal warns AAP councillors after Haryana poll results, BJP alleges work at MCD standstill

Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday cited the Haryana assembly poll results and asked AAP councillors in the capital not to become "overconfident" ahead of the assembly polls in Delhi early next year.Kejriwal urged AAP councillors to stop infighting in the Delhi Municipal Corporation House and work towards making the party victorious in the Delhi polls.In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that all work at the MCD has come to a standstill for the past two years, leading to public discontent.The BJP on Tuesday pulled off an improbable victory in Haryana despite being in power twice, bagging 48 of the state's 90 seats, while the Congress failed to retain its Lok Sabha poll lead and was reduced to just 37. Meanwhile, the AAP failed to win a single seat.

Citing the results in the neighbouring state, Kejriwal said AAP councillors will play a key role in the upcoming Delhi polls. He urged the councillors to ensure regular cleaning of their areas and to stop infighting. The former Delhi chief minister was speaking at a gathering organised at the Constitution Club of India, attended by senior party leaders Manish Sisodia, Gopal Rai, Durgesh Pathak and Mayor Shaili Oberoi. "We should not take any election lightly. The biggest lesson from today's results is that one should never be overconfident. No election should be taken lightly. Every election, every seat is difficult and we have to work hard to win it," Kejriwal said.

Every family has disputes and we will resolve our disputes later but right now we should all work together so that the party can win the elections." In the last one year, many councillors in AAP have left the party and joined the BJP. AAP still has a high representation in the MCD, but after the party left, its gap with the BJP has come down from 30 to just nine. Addressing the gathering, AAP's MCD in-charge Pathak said that the biggest problem facing the corporation is lack of funds. He alleged that funds were provided in the budget, but the officials are creating obstructions on the instructions of the Lieutenant Governor and the BJP.

Meanwhile, Oberoi said that many councillors cite lack of budget and funds and non-cooperation of officials. He claimed, just like the Delhi government's works are being stopped, similarly there is pressure on officials to stop funds in MCD.Responding to the AAP gathering, the BJP said the people of Haryana have given a mandate to their party's development and corruption-free governance.Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said, "Only a dramatic leader like Arvind Kejriwal can talk of sharing the strategy for victory in Delhi, whereas despite his claims of forming the government, his party fell behind even by the NOTA option in the Haryana elections. AAP councillors openly told Kejriwal that all works in the municipal corporation have been stalled for the last two years and even the MLAs are not cooperating, leading to public discontent," he said.
