बृह्मनमुंबई नगर निगम (BMC) के अधिकारियों की एक टीम शनिवार सुबह धारावी पहुंची। यहां महबूब-ए-सुभानी मस्जिद के अवैध हिस्से को गिराया जाना था।
A team of BMC officials from Dharavi who had come to demolish the illegal part of the mosque was attacked on Saturday morning

A team of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials reached Dharavi on Saturday morning. The illegal part of Mehboob-e-Subhani Mosque was to be demolished here. The team reached Dharavi's 90 feet road at 9 am. As soon as the news spread, people from the colony including the Muslim community gathered and stopped the team. Later, the protesters vandalized two BMC vehicles. A large number of police have been deployed to handle the situation. A team of protesters went to discuss with the police and BMC. After this, BMC has stopped the demolition action today. Also, the mosque committee has been given 8 days' time.
The BMC team that reached to take action on the mosque issued a statement after the dispute stopped. It said - The trustees of the mosque have appealed to the BMC to give them some time. During this time, they will remove the illegal part themselves. BMC has agreed to this. Devendra Fadnavis said- BMC had also started action a few days ago. At that time, time till Eid was sought. Today when the BMC team went there, they said that they will remove the encroachment in the next four-five days, so the team has returned. In any case, if someone creates a law and order situation and obstructs, it will not be right. I am confident that they will remove the illegal part themselves. The police station is just 100 meters away from the 90 feet road of Dharavi on which this mosque is built. Reports have claimed that BMC had sent a notice to the mosque committee last year as well. But even then no solution was found. Here, Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad also met CM Eknath Shinde against this action. He claimed that the Chief Minister has assured to stop the demolition.
Asia's largest slum Dharavi was settled by the British in 1882. It was settled with the aim of providing affordable accommodation to the laborers. Gradually, people started increasing here and slums were formed. The land here is government land, but people have built slums. There is no data on how many people live in Dharavi. It is only estimated that about 10 lakh people live in small slums here. More than 13 thousand small businesses run in these slums. The streets are so narrow that if someone falls ill, even a stretcher cannot go inside. About 23 thousand crores are to be spent on the redevelopment project of Dharavi. This project was given to Adani Group in July 2023. In this, more than 60 thousand families will get new houses for free. The condition is that the family should have been living in Dharavi before 1 January 2000. This area gained popularity after the release of the film 'Slumdog Millionaire' in the year 2008. The film also won many awards. After this, Dharavi was shown in the film Gully Boy. Many tourists come here to get a glimpse of the life of the people living in the slums of India.
