Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday said the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir was a “big booster dose” for the party and it heralded a change in the politics of the country. “Today is the second anniversary of the launch of the truly transformative Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Over 200 Bharat Yatris led by Rahul Gandhi completed the 4000-km long yatra, most of it on foot, covering 12 states and 2 Union Territories over a period of 145 days.” “This yatra led to unprecedented connectivity and collectivism and it was a big booster dose for the Indian National Congress. It also heralded a change in the politics of our country,” he said. Ramesh said it also provided the inspiration for the Manipur to Mumbai Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra during January-March 2024. Rahul Gandhi began the yatra from Kanyakumari on September 7, 2022. It culminated on January 30, 2023, when Gandhi concluded his ambitious 145-day yatra in Srinagar.

During the yatra, he addressed 12 public meetings, over 100 street corner meetings and 13 press conferences. He planned over 275 foot-to-foot dialogues and over 100 sit-down dialogues. With a journey of over 4,000 kilometres, Gandhi managed to attract the attention of his supporters as well as opponents. The march saw participation from various sections of society, including film and TV personalities such as Kamal Haasan, Pooja Bhatt, Riya Sen, Swara Bhaskar, Rashami Desai, Akanksha Puri and Amol Palekar.

Besides, authors and military veterans, including former Army Chief Gen (Retd) Deepak Kapoor and former Navy Chief Admiral (Retd) L Ramdas, and eminent personalities such as former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and former Finance Secretary Arvind Mayaram also joined the yatra. Opposition leaders like Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah of the National Conference, Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP, Aditya Thackeray, Priyanka Chaturvedi and Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena and Supriya Sule of the NCP also walked with Gandhi at various points during the march.
