Kapil Parmar won India's first Paralympic medal in Judo, winning the bronze medal in the men's 60kg (J1) after defeating Brazil's Ailiton de Oliveira in the play-off here on Thursday. Parmar put up a brilliant performance and dominated his opponent from start to finish to win the bronze medal contest 10-0. Earlier, he lost to S Banitaba Khorram Abadi in the semi-finals, beaten 0-10 by his Iranian opponent. The J1 category in Para Judo is for athletes who are not able to see at all or suffer from very low vision activity. Parmar, who won a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games in the same category, had earlier defeated Venezuela's Marco Denis Blanco 10-0 in the quarter-finals. However, Parmar was given one yellow card each in both the bouts on Thursday. Yellow cards in judo are given for minor infractions such as passivity or using a technique that may hinder or injure an opponent.

History-making Indian archer Harvinder Singh's bid for a double medal at the Paris Paralympics ended in heartbreak as he, along with Pooja Jatyan, lost to Slovenia in a shoot-off in a tense recurve mixed team bronze playoff match. After losing to top seeds Italy in the semi-finals, fifth seeds Harvinder and Pooja, who both hail from Haryana, twice slipped from 2-0 and 4-2 leads in the bronze medal match to lose 4-5 (19-17) to Ziva Lavrinc and Dejan Fabic. After winning the first set 33-30, Slovenia levelled the score with a 34-29 win in the second set thanks to Pooja's 6 and Harvinder's 5 arrows. Harvinder continued their momentum by hitting two 10s in the second set while Pooja hit the 9 ring twice to put them back on track with a 38-33 win in the third set, which also restored their lead (4-2). But they failed to finish it off, both scoring 5 and 7 in the fourth set, allowing Slovenia to win the fourth set 34-29, forcing a shoot-off. Fabic got off to a bright start by scoring 9 in the shoot-off, followed by Jeeva to finish it off with a perfect 10 while Harvinder and Pooja scored 8 and 9.
