Fast bowler Yash Dayal selected in Indian team, parents express happiness

After their son was selected in the Indian team, fast bowler Yash Dayal's parents expressed happiness over a major achievement in his life, saying that their collective dream of seeing the 26-year-old represent his country has come true. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced the squad for the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh starting this month, with fast bowlers Akash Deep and Yash Dayal included in the squad, with the latter being included in the squad for the first time. The first Test of the two-match series will be played in Chennai from September 19. After a two-year stint with Gujarat Titans till 2022-23, in which he took 13 wickets in 14 games, won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title and even fell prey to Rinku Singh's death-overs massacre during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) that saw him hit five sixes in a row, Dayal had a solid season in the league with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) this year, as he took 18 wickets in 15 matches and bowled an over that helped the franchise register six consecutive wins after a disastrous start and miraculously make it to the playoffs.

Yash's father Chandrapal, who was once a cricketer himself, said that ever since he was a kid Yash only had a passion for cricket and representing his country. He also said that his journey was not easy, as he faced tough challenges along the way, like not getting selected in the Uttar Pradesh Under-19 team. But Yash fought them all. First of all it is a matter of pride for our family. When a child starts playing, he dreams of representing the country. Now he has got a call to represent the country. From a small town he has come so far. There were many tough challenges in his life but he kept fighting. He was always attached to cricket. You get success when your focus is right. I was a cricketer myself he saw me play as a kid.

Though he couldn't play for UP in U19, he got selected in U23 in 2018 and since then he hasn't looked back. He has been making steady progress since then, be it Ranji Trophy, IPL etc. His dream of playing for India has also come true, his father said. Chanderpaul hoped that his son will become one of the best bowlers in the world. Yash's mother Radha also told ANI, "It is a matter of joy for us. It is a big thing for us. We are all celebrating it together. All the family members have gathered and will burst crackers. We cannot express our happiness in words. It took a lot of hard work to do all this. We kept motivating him and giving him positivity to move forward.

Dayal has had a brilliant first-class cricket career, taking 76 wickets in 24 matches at an average of 28.89, with his best performance being 5/48. In India B's recent win over India A in the Duleep Trophy, Yash took three wickets for India B, including a spell of 3/50 in the fourth innings.
