PM Narendra Modi to address J&K BJP rally on Saturday
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Doda in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, where he will address a public rally for the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the Union Territory. Elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to be held on September 18, September 25 and October 1, while the counting of votes will take place on October 8. Earlier on Friday, Union Minister Jitendra Singh visited the venue and reviewed the preparations for the public meeting to be held on September 14. Singh said that this will be the first visit of a Prime Minister to Doda in nearly 50 years.
PM Modi has given priority to remote areas, which has created a lot of enthusiasm among the public. There has been a lot of development in Doda in the last 10 years. No Prime Minister has visited Doda in the last 50 years. But after PM Modi's visit, the message will go out that PM Modi has done a lot of work to bring remote areas at par with developed areas. Jammu and Kashmir will go to polls after a gap of ten years, as the last assembly elections were held in 2014. Jammu and Kashmir has 90 assembly constituencies, including 7 reserved for Scheduled Castes and 9 reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
According to the Election Commission of India, Jammu and Kashmir has 88.06 lakh voters. In the last assembly elections, the People's Democratic Party won 28 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party 25, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference 15 and the Congress 12. The PDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018 after the latter withdrew support to then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. These upcoming elections will be the first elections in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.
