Born on 2 May 1969 in Santa Cruz, Trinidad and Tobago, Brian Charles Lara started playing cricket for the first time when he was in high school. The extremely talented Brian Lara scored 498 runs in the West Indies Youth Championship in 1987 and caught everyone's attention by breaking the record of 480 runs made by Carl Hooper in this tournament. After this, in January 1988, he made his first class debut for Trinidad and Tobago in the Red Stripe Cup against Leeward Islands. In 1990, he played the first Test match for West Indies against Pakistan. Brian Lara also holds the record for scoring the best individual score in first class cricket. He scored an unbeaten 501 for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston in 1994 and his record has not been broken yet.

Lara announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket on 19 April 2007 and five years later he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame at the awards ceremony held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. 55-year-old Brian Lara earned a lot during his cricket career and now his main source of income is commentary. He also earned through match fees, brand endorsements during his cricket career. His net worth at present is more than 60 million dollars i.e. 503 crores. Lara is one of the ten richest cricketers in the world.
