President Joe Biden ignores Russian leader's threat
President Joe Biden ignored Russian leader Vladimir Putin's threat that Ukraine's allies would go to war against the West if they allowed it to use weapons inside Russia. It's a change that Kyiv has requested but is unlikely to be announced after a meeting between Biden and Britain's prime minister on Friday.
Ukraine was a key topic for Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has come under new pressure to ease arms sanctions, after a visit by his top diplomat to Kyiv this week. So far, the U.S. has allowed Ukraine to use U.S.-provided weapons only in a limited area inside Russia's borders. Two U.S. officials familiar with the discussions said they believed Starmer would seek Biden's approval to allow Ukraine to use British Storm Shadow missiles for extended strikes into Russia. Biden's approval may be needed because components of the Storm Shadow are made in the U.S. The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share the status of private talks, said they believed Biden would be open to it.
