Speeding luxury car hits autorickshaw, dies in hospital
A man succumbed to his injuries at a Delhi hospital after a speeding luxury car hit the autorickshaw in which he was travelling with his family in the national capital earlier this week, police said on Saturday. According to the police FIR lodged by duty officer Sub Inspector Banwari Lal, the deceased Sachchidanand Kumar along with his son Neeraj Kumar and family were injured when their autorickshaw hit the autorickshaw on Tilak Marg on September 12.
Neeraj Kumar, who was travelling in the autorickshaw along with his father, wife and two sons, said his family members are currently receiving treatment. According to Neeraj, they were on their way to their home in Sangam Vihar from the New Delhi railway station when a BMW car jumped a red light and collided with their auto. The collision was so severe that the auto overturned thrice, injuring all the passengers. Neeraj's father and son Yashraj were seriously injured, while Neeraj and his wife suffered injuries on their legs, back and neck. The driver of a passing vehicle came to their aid and quickly rushed Neeraj's father and Yashraj to L.N.J.P. Hospital. "The auto driver called PCR and about 20 minutes later the police came and took my wife, my son and me to Lady Hardinge Hospital," Neeraj said. Due to the severity of his father's injuries, Neeraj decided to take him to L.N.J.P. Hospital without getting him treated. The BMW driver took advantage of the situation and fled from the spot. "We could not chase him as our priority was to get the injuries treated," Neeraj said.
After three days of medical care, Neeraj's father was taken to the ICU, where doctors indicated that his condition was critical. However, sources said he later succumbed to his injuries. "I am financially very weak and unable to take care of my family and father at this time. If the car driver comes in front of me, I will recognise him. Therefore, I sincerely request you to please take appropriate action against the said car driver and the car owner," Neeraj said. On September 19, the police registered an FIR in the case under relevant sections for road accident following the death of Sachchidanand Kumar.
