DM inaugurates RPL programme under PMKVY for leather sector in Noida
Taking a significant step towards enhancing skill development in the leather industry, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) training programme under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) was today officially inaugurated by DM Manish Kumar Verma at Savi Global Fashion Pvt Ltd, Noida. Executive Director, Leather Sector Skill Council (LSSC) Sanjay Kumar, Managing Directors of Savi Global Fashion Pvt Ltd Sanjay Kumar Jha and Vijay Kumar Jha and other dignitaries from the leather industry were present on the occasion. The PMKVY RPL programme, a key initiative under the Skill India Mission of the Government of India, is designed to assess and certify the skills of individuals already working in the leather sector to ensure that their experience and expertise get formal recognition. The initiative not only uplifts the workforce but also enhances productivity and quality standards in the leather industry.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Magistrate stressed the importance of skill certification in today's competitive market. He said, the RPL programme will fill the gap between formal and informal skill acquisition, empowering workers to achieve high standards of professionalism in the leather sector. Sanjay Kumar, Executive Director, LSSC said, “Leather Sector Skill https://youtu.be/8a2CtJ73z0Q Council is committed to furthering the skill development agenda in the leather sector, which is expected to grow to US$ 50 billion in 2030. This initiative will play a vital role in recognizing the hard work and expertise of the workforce, while helping the industry move towards a more structured and certified workforce. Sanjay Kumar Jha, Managing Directors, Savi Global Fashion Pvt. Ltd. and Vijay Kumar Jha expressed their appreciation for LSSC for organizing such a program that will contribute to the timely growth of the industry. “We are proud to be a part of this initiative that will not only benefit the workers but will also uplift the entire value chain of the leather industry,” he added. The program saw enthusiastic participation from employees and industry leaders, marking the beginning of a transformational journey for the leather sector workforce.
The RPL program is expected to set a benchmark in recognizing and certifying skilled workers in the industry. This is expected to make India's leather sector more competitive on the global platform. The Leather Sector Skill Council (LSSC) is a body under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India dedicated to skill development in India's leather and leather goods sector. Working closely with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and industry associations, LSSC aims to create a structured framework for workforce development in various sectors including leather, footwear and accessories manufacturing.
