Rickshaw puller stabbed to death for resisting robbery

A 32-year-old rickshaw puller was allegedly stabbed to death by two minors after he resisted a robbery attempt in Shastri Park, north-east Delhi on Sunday, police said. The boys, aged 15 and 17, were arrested on Monday and booked for murder. Police said the boys spotted the victim near Buland Masjid on Main Pusta Road and decided to target him. They called him for a ride and when he approached them, they tried to snatch his phone, police said. When he resisted, they stabbed him six times and slit his throat, police said. The victim has been identified as Abdul Qayyum.

Passersby called the police at 8 pm to report the incident. "We were told that a man was lying in a pool of blood near his rickshaw. There were no eyewitnesses," a senior police officer said. We reached the spot and rushed the victim to a hospital where doctors declared him dead. "Several CCTVs installed in the area were examined and it was found that the boys surrounded Qayyum in the middle of the road. They tried to snatch his phone but he resisted. Angered by this, the boys stabbed him six times and fled with his phone," Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Joy N Tirkey said. The boys were later seen roaming in the area with an e-rickshaw. Two teams were deployed to investigate the matter.

Around 12.30 pm, we found the two returning to Shastri Park area. The team apprehended them, another police officer said. Police said they were trying to find out if the boys were linked to other stabbing cases in the area. However, police said they were minors and minors do not have any criminal record. Police informed the victim's family about his death and they took his body into their custody on Monday, officials said. In a related incident, at around 1.30 pm on Sunday, a group of robbers, suspected to be teenagers, entered a Dhaba in New Seelampur and looted it after threatening to shoot the manager.
